President-elect Donald Trump has officially confirmed Republican Representative Elise Stefanik's nomination as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. In a statement to the New York Post, Trump praised Stefanik, calling her "an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter." 

"I am truly honored to earn President Trump’s nomination to serve in his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations,” Stefanik said in her acceptance. Stefanik, known for her staunch pro-Israel stance, will bring a strong voice to the international stage, particularly in supporting U.S. allies and taking a hardline stance on issues like antisemitism and the fight against terrorism.

A Strong Advocate for Israel and Anti-Antisemitism

Stefanik’s unwavering support for Israel has been a defining feature of her political career. She has been a vocal critic of policies perceived to undermine Israeli security and sovereignty, including the actions of the Biden administration. Just hours before her confirmation, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to denounce the Biden administration for waiving sanctions on the Palestinian Authority, which she accused of supporting terrorism and "pay-to-slay" policies that reward terrorists who target Israelis. 

Her pro-Israel record includes sponsoring numerous measures to support Israel in Congress and making clear her commitment to continuing the strong U.S.-Israel partnership, particularly in the fight against Hamas. "The fight against Hamas is one of good versus evil, civilization versus barbarism, and humanity versus depravity," Stefanik has said, emphasizing the importance of standing with Israel in its struggles.

Stefanik also made headlines in 2023 for her leadership in addressing rising antisemitism on college campuses. During a high-profile hearing with university presidents, she pressed Harvard, MIT, and the University of Pennsylvania on whether calls for genocide against Jews violated their codes of conduct. Her assertive approach underscored her commitment to combating antisemitism both at home and abroad.

Criticism of Biden’s Foreign Policy

Stefanik’s nomination also reflects her ongoing critique of President Biden's foreign policy. She has consistently argued that under Biden, the U.S. is less safe, accusing the administration of appeasement toward America's adversaries. "Under Joe Biden, the world is less safe," Stefanik said in a press conference earlier this year. She has pointed to the Biden administration's handling of foreign relations with Russia, Iran, China, and Afghanistan as evidence of a failed approach that leaves American allies vulnerable.

Stefanik has been a vocal proponent of Trump’s “peace through strength” foreign policy, emphasizing the need to restore American power and assertiveness on the global stage.

As U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Stefanik is expected to continue her strong advocacy for Israel and confront rising global threats, particularly those posed by terrorist organizations and authoritarian regimes.
